EDGEBANDING

Edgebands protect a panel’s edge from damage and have a huge effect on how a finished panel looks.

We have plenty of edgeband options! Our most popular edgebands are our ABS, laminate strip, veneer and solid wood edgebands. In some applications, the component’s core is left exposed, and no edgeband is used.

Laminated panel

ABS

ABS edgebands enable even the most creative of designs! With ABS, you can play with contrast, colour and materials. Our selection includes metal and wood patterns, and numerous colour options.

ABS, or acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, is a highly durable plastic, which makes it an excellent choice for the edges of surfaces that are exposed to a lot of wear and tear, such as kitchen worktops and public space fixtures. ABS edgebands are our most popular edgeband option.

ABS edgebands can be installed with a 22.5- or 45-degree angle or shaped, which enables edgebanding panels with round shapes or even edgebanding the insides of larger holes.

Laminate strip

Laminate strips are made with high-pressure laminate – the same material as the laminate on our panels! Using laminate strips enables the edges to be exactly matched with the rest of the panel.

Laminate strips can also be used for shaped edges.

Laminate strips are 0.7 mm thick, and designs and colours are available according to the Formica Collection Directory.

Veneer

Veneer edgebands from genuine wood! Laminate panels with veneer edgebands combine a hygienic, durable and easy-to-clean surface with the classic and timeless look of wood.

The tree species used are birch, oak, beech, cherry and walnut. The edgebands are 1–2 mm in thickness. They can be varnished, stained or waxed.

Solid wood

Solid wood edgebands take laminate doors and worktops to the next level! This edgeband type also combines the best features of wood and laminate panels – a hygienic, durable and easy-to-clean surface, and the classic and timeless look of wood.

Solid wood edgebands can be attached to the edge, or the edges can be covered with laminate, in which case the wooden band or part of it is covered with the laminate. The most commonly used wood species used for solid wood edgebands are oak, birch and beech. The edgebands can be left untreated, or they can be varnished or stained. Solid wood edgebands are usually straight, but their ends can also be bevelled. The standard thickness of the solid wood edgeband is 5 mm. Contact our customer service for other thicknesses.

Due to different manufacturing techniques, panels with covered edges and surface-attached edgebands are not available in all the Formica Collection Directory designs. Contact our customer service to ask about the availability of the design of your choice!
